APPLYING FOR A GRANT FROM RCF
The Renton Community Foundation currently administers 34 different funds, benefiting a variety of community causes such as education, the arts, healthcare, family services, and even pet care (see List of Funds). While RCF disbursed more than $130,000 back to the community in 2006, the majority of those funds came from our donor-advised, scholarship or affiliate funds, where no applications were required. If you are interested in applying for a grant or scholarship from the Renton Community Foundation, please read below.
CIRCLE OF GIVING
Each fall, RCF solicits friends and donors to support our Circle of Giving Program. Donors making gifts of $1,000 and more are invited to review grant applications and recommend to the board how the money will be disbursed. Grants are made in the greater Renton area and typically range between $500 and $4,000. Grant applications (see Circle of Giving) must be received by October 15 and will be accepted for operations or programmatic needs. Grants are disbursed in January of the following year at a special awards ceremony Calendar
SCHOLARSHIPS
While several of our scholarship programs are administered through other organizations (Rotary, Renton Technical College), RCF now manages two of its own.
Betty Jacobsen Memorial Scholarship Fund: This fund was established to benefit individuals who have attended at least one of three schools: St. Anthony School in Renton; Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue; or John F. Kennedy High School in Burien. Once that threshold has been met, applicants can request funds for post-secondary education, adult education, or certification programs. Applications will be made available by the end of January or early February of each year (application).
However, because this is an endowment fund, the principal cannot be spent. Because of poor market trends, this fund will not be providing scholarships in 2008.
The Carl & Betty Rochet Scholarship Fund: Carl Rochet was a prominent newspaper publisher in the Renton community. He created a permanent endowment by providing the original funds to the Renton Community Foundation specifically to assist young people in achieving their educational goals.
SENIOR EMERGENCY PET CARE GRANTS for senior citizens
Our Budkis Charbonneau Fund provides funds for seniors who require emergency care for their companion pets. However, RCF does not accept applications for these funds, but rather works directly with participating veterinarians who identify qualifying clients. However if you require assistance, please give us a call for more information.
