Our Scholarship Committee has recommended over $30,000 in available scholarship funds for the 2013-14 academic year. Applications will be available on our website and www.washboard.org in January. We will offer a new scholarship this year (Betty Jacobsen Scholarship) available only to individuals who have attended one of three Catholic schools: St. Anthony's, John F. Kennedy High School in Burien, or or Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue.
In 2012, the Foundation Board worked hard to educate itself on the priority needs in our community (homelessness, hunger, and at-risk youth). The goal was to identify a gap in services that we might be able to impact by taking a leadership position. At their November board retreat, the board voted to support an initiative to impact the lack of transportation - a pervasive issue that seems to cross all boundaries. Whether it's someone who is trying to get to a doctor's appointment or to a food bank, or a food bank that needs a truck to deliver produce, the lack of transportation directly impacts our most vulnerable populations. RCF has now established a steering committee and a new "Community Benefit Fund" to begin the process of delivering on a promise. Stay tuned!
